Frequently Asked Questions (Security & Access Control)

1. Since I do not know which hardware works with what software I am unable to configure and provide a quote.

2. What is the max. number of readers it supports? How many maximum licenses per installation can be done? My question below will clarify it more better:

3. Suppose a client has multiple locations can he use F/P at one location; Mifare at the other and Prox at the other (mix and match) etc. ?

4. In such a case, if every location manager wants to see what is happening ( how many people came in late, who went early etc.,) and get the reports, is it possible

5. If these locations are connected by a WAN, do you need to have software at all locations or only at one location?

6. Is it possible to schedule the data download from the reader – on demand i.e., anytime manually, or a schedule say at a few particular assigned times or online data transfer ( i.e., the moment a person punches the attendance, the data travels from the reader to the server , assuming that the WAN Link is working fine)

7. What is the alternative if a client has more than one locations and they have no WAN . This is a very common scenario. Do you have a facility of modem dialing. Does your terminal have an inbuilt modem which can be dialed and connected to?

8. Does your software have any limitation of employees and readers?

9. Is this the only software you have for T/A? This seems to be an unlimited version.

10. You have mentioned Integrated database for Enterprise Attendance Management System and Smartkey Access Management Software.  – does it mean that the client need not buy and install any database?

11.What is the meaning of : It has the function of “calculate the modulus” and will satisfy the factory’s practical demands

12. What is the meaning of : It has the function of “whether to sense the card when the Staff are on duty and off duty” – Does it mean that when a staff is on leave, they are not marked absent?

13. You have not given any details of reports that are available from the system. What are they? Can we select reports for a week, a month or for a period (from / to).?

14. Can we generate reports that are for an employee only, a group ( a group is different from a department or section. Here I can mix employees say from Purchase , sales, engg etc and create a group), a department , branch, company wide etc.,

15. What is the output of your overtime – no. of hours worked extra. Now, each company has its own overtime rules – how do we manage this diversity. For e.g., One may pay for the first 2 hours 100% and thereafter 125% from the 3rd hour onwards, where as the other may pay 100% for as many hours they work, so on so forth. How can we apply such rules?

16. Do you support Hand Geometry for T/A . Can it work with F/P, and other card based systems?

17. How do you handle lost cards – delete them from the data base and issue a new card and then update the database again?

18. Can you readers connect to a camera so that when an employee signs in, the face can be captured/

19. What happens if the customer wants to buy the SDK? What do we charge them and what is the delivery period. What type of support is available from you for this as this is a technical requirement.

20. Can we provide a job id? This might be for a work-in-progress calculation

21. What type of reports are generated?

22. If a client has more than one office, and all these offices are connected to their HO through a WAN link, is it possible to manage them centrally. Which means your T/A terminals are connected to the WAN port and they employee who logs in and out is known immediately (on line poll of data) or after a scheduled time ( scheduled polling time set – can be any time of the day or night, with retires if the connection breaks and also restart from the point where the data had been collected from the terminal)

23. Can you mix and match terminals. This means one can have F/P as well as other technologies on the same network.

24. How can we program your function keys? Like In / Out/ Business out/ Pers Out etc.,

Description

SK100XT

'X' represent Reader Built-in. It can be 'E' for EM Reader, 'M' for Mifare Reader, 'H' for HID Reader
'T' represent Electronics Time Recording Terminal

SKX00

'X' represent nos. of Door this Card Access Controller can control & able to link to software for support. e.g SK100 control 1 door, SK200 control 2 door, SK400 control 4 door

SK100X

'X' represent type of built-in Reader on the controller and this controller is for stand-alone where it is not able to support linkage to software

SK100XS

'S' represent controller is able to link to software for support.

SK100-FOP

'FOP' represents Fingerprint Optical Sensor for Biometric Access Control System. This model will not have any card reader built-in except for the fingerprint reader.
For Built-in Reader Model it will be SK100X- FOP
For Time Attendance Model it will be SK100XT-FOP where there can have X or without X.

Hope that I've given you a clear picture of how you can select the model.

As for Software, If you're using any Access Controller to do Access Control and Time Attendance, then, you will need to have an exit reader connected. You will also need to use the SKEMS Card Access Software & SKTS TimeCheck Management Software.

If you’re using a SmartKey Electronics Time Clock for your attendance purpose, then all you need is SKTS TimeCheck Management Software.

All our controller is able to connect using RS485 to RS232 converter or RS485 to TCP/IP convert and you can even have a mixture of both.

2. What is the max. number of readers it supports? How many maximum licenses per installation can be done? My question below will clarify it more better:

A)     The software has a maximum of 99 controllers if you are using TCP/IP in one bus. Otherwise, a maximum of 16 controllers can be installed if RS485 communication is used in one bus.

3. Suppose a client has multiple locations can he use F/P at one location; Mifare at the other and Prox at the other (mix and match) etc. ?

A) Yes, technically speaking you can mix anything. But this depends on the customer requirements

4. In such a case, if every location manager wants to see what is happening ( how many people came in late, who went early etc.,) and get the reports, is it possible

A) Yes, it is possible to do so. The TimeCheck can generate the report based on certain group, in this case, location if you want to, provided that the setting is done properly.

5. If these locations are connected by a WAN, do you need to have software at all locations or only at one location?

A) The software can be done at one location and other location can access the main software via LAN/WAN.

6. Is it possible to schedule the data download from the reader – on demand i.e., anytime manually, or a schedule say at a few particular assigned times or online data transfer ( i.e., the moment a person punches the attendance, the data travels from the reader to the server , assuming that the WAN Link is working fine)

A) By default, the software will automatically poll the data periodically. Most of the time, customer prefers on-line.

7. What is the alternative if a client has more than one locations and they have no WAN . This is a very common scenario. Do you have a facility of modem dialing. Does your terminal have an inbuilt modem which can be dialed and connected to?

A) The modem technology is very much outdated. However, if there is a substantial volume for the project, we may consider this.

8. Does your software have any limitation of employees and readers?

A) We can only limit based on the controllers e.g. SK 400 can only hold 20000 users so the software can have a maximum of 20000 users, or SK800 can hold up to 100000 so is the software.

9. Is this the only software you have for T/A? This seems to be an unlimited version.

A) Yes, the Smartkey software for T/A is only TimeCheck.

Top

10. You have mentioned Integrated database for Enterprise Attendance Management System and Smartkey Access Management Software.  – does it mean that the client need not buy and install any database?

A) The client doesn't need any database. However, you need to install SQL Server 2000 for this.

11.What is the meaning of : It has the function of “calculate the modulus” and will satisfy the factory’s practical demands

A) The calculation is rounded up to 3 decimal points. This is sufficient for many type of calculation.

Top

12. What is the meaning of : It has the function of “whether to sense the card when the Staff are on duty and off duty” – Does it mean that when a staff is on leave, they are not marked absent?

A)   The TimeCheck allows 1 reader for T/A. The user doesn't need to press IN or OUT duty. This feature reduces customer mistakes for IN and OUT.

How can we apply such rules?

A) We only add on the number of hour extra. The rule can be applied for each group.

Top

16. Do you support Hand Geometry for T/A . Can it work with F/P, and other card based systems?

A) We can support standard wiegand 26-bit connection for all type readers. So if any type of readers that support wiegand 26-bit connection, we should not have any issues.

Top

17. How do you handle lost cards – delete them from the data base and issue a new card and then update the database again?

We have lost cards function and history. The lost card can reissue to the previous owner or recycle the card if the previous owner has been issued another card.
